Pharmacological action
1. function of anti-pathogenic-micro-organism
(1). Anti-bacterium function: experiment research shows that Flos Lonicerae has inhibiting effect on many kinds of pathogen.(2). Anti-virus function: as to human embryo kidney primary simple epithelium cell tissue culture, Flos Lonicerae decoction(1:20) has inhibiting effect on influenza virus, and herpes virus.
2. anti-inflammation and antipyretic effect
Abdominal cavity injection Flos Lonicerae decoction 0.25g/kg can inhibit rat¡¯s foot swelling caused by carrageenin and also has inhibiting effect on foot swelling caused by egg white. Abdominal cavity injection Flos Lonicerae decoction 8g/kg, two times a day, for successive 6 days, has distinct inhibiting effect on inflammatory exudation of croton oil granulation cystis and granulation-tissue-formation.
3. effect on immune system: in vitro experiment, diluting Flos Lonicerae decoction to 1:1280 still can promote phagocytic function of white cells. And rat¡¯s abdominal cavity injection of Flos Lonicerae also has distinct effect of promoting inflammatory cell¡¯s phagocytic function.
4. function of blood-lipid-reducing
Rat administrated Flos Lonicerae 2.5g/kg can decrease the absorption of enteral cholesterol and reduce content of cholesterol in plasma. In vitro experiment Flos lonicerae can be combined with cholesterol.
5. effect on neutral nerve system
Chlorogenic acid contained in Flos Lonicerae has effect of central excitation.
6. other function
Oral-administrating Flos Lonicerae decoction has slight preventing effect on rat¡¯s experimental gastric ulcer. There are scholars who reported that Flos Lonicerae as tea has function of treating toothache and pharyngitis.
Clinical application
It is used to prevent upper respiratory tract infection, treat respiratory tract infection, bacterial infection, acute tonsillitis, hyperlipemia and tumor chemotherapy, chemotherapy xerostomia.
